Significant Progress in Yemen’s Mine Clearance Efforts

The Operations Room for the “Masam” project, dedicated to demining in Yemen, has announced notable advancements in its efforts to eliminate landmines and war remnants. This announcement was communicated via a statement from the project’s media office, highlighting the achievements made from the beginning of April until the 24th of the month.

According to the statement, the “Masam” teams successfully removed a total of 5,818 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during this period. The breakdown of these figures is as follows:

  • 5,474 unexploded munitions
  • 289 anti-tank mines
  • 31 anti-personnel mines
  • 24 IEDs

Additionally, the teams cleared an impressive 1,137,337 square meters of affected land, significantly contributing to the rehabilitation of these areas for safe civilian use.

Weekly Achievements and Ongoing Operations

In the fourth week of April alone, “Masam” teams removed 1,273 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and IEDs. This included:

  • 1,157 unexploded munitions
  • 105 anti-tank mines
  • 3 anti-personnel mines
  • 8 IEDs

During this week, the teams also cleared 341,524 square meters of land, reflecting their ongoing commitment to enhancing civilian safety.

The Operations Room also confirmed that since the initiation of demining activities in the Midi region, a total of 9,016 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and IEDs have been removed. These efforts are crucial in improving civilian safety and providing a secure environment for residents.
