The Republic of Yemen participated today in a meeting of permanent representatives to the Arab League, alongside Chinese officials, held in Beijing. The Yemeni delegation, led by Dr. Ali Mousa, Yemen’s Chargé d’Affaires at the Arab League, focused on preparations for the upcoming second Arab-Chinese summit scheduled for mid-June.

The meeting, chaired by Qahatan Khalaf, Iraq’s Ambassador to Egypt and permanent representative to the Arab League, addressed several issues of mutual interest. He appreciated China’s steadfast support for Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity, as well as its backing for the Presidential Leadership Council led by President Rashad Mohammed Alimi.

The Chargé d’Affaires discussed the current challenges facing Yemen, attributing them to the Houthi militia’s coup, backed by the Iranian regime. He clarified that recent security measures, including the protection of military camps in Aden, Hadramout, and Al-Mahra, aim to safeguard state institutions and protect citizens from chaos, rather than display force.
Government Readiness to Ensure Security
Dr. Mousa affirmed that the legitimate government, with support from Saudi Arabia and the Coalition for Legitimacy, has successfully unified national ranks and addressed security gaps. He assured readiness to protect international waterways and deter terrorist threats.
Call for International Support
The Yemeni representative emphasized that ending Houthi threats to international navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab requires addressing the root causes of the crisis and restoring legitimacy.
