President Alimi Welcomes German Ambassador to Discuss Bilateral Relations
On Wednesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed Thomas Schneider, the German Ambassador to Yemen, at the Maasheeq Palace. This meeting aimed to strengthen the ties between Yemen and Germany while addressing pressing local issues.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
During the meeting, both leaders discussed the exceptional bilateral relations between their countries. They explored the current situation in Yemen and emphasized the necessary German and European support for government reforms. The conversation also highlighted the urgent need to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people caused by the actions of the Iran-backed Houthi militia.
Germany’s Support for Yemen
President Alimi praised Germany’s steadfast support for the Yemeni people and their political leadership. He acknowledged Germany as one of the largest donors to the humanitarian response plan, emphasizing its significant developmental and humanitarian contributions. The discussion also covered the economic reforms implemented by the Yemeni government and the Central Bank, along with the international support required to strengthen state institutions and meet their commitments.
Addressing Security Threats
The meeting further addressed the ongoing Houthi threats to international peace and security. Both leaders discussed the collaboration between the Houthis and terrorist groups in Yemen and the region. They also expressed concerns about the continuous flow of Iranian weapons to the Houthi militia, which poses a significant risk.
Commitment to Peace
President Alimi reaffirmed the council’s and the government’s commitment to a comprehensive and sustainable peace process. He stressed the importance of adhering to national, regional, and international references, particularly United Nations Resolution 2216.
