The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, has strongly condemned the heinous crime committed by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias. The attack involved an attempted incursion into the Al-Hafra neighborhood in the city of Rada, located in Al-Bayda province. The area faced heavy shelling from various types of medium and heavy weapons.
Casualties and Ongoing Violence
In a press statement, Al-Eryani reported that this brutal assault resulted in the deaths of three local residents, including young men Muhammad Al-Sabahi and Hassan Al-Halimi. Additionally, five others sustained injuries. This initial casualty count may rise as the militia continues to besiege the neighborhood, reinforcing their presence and preventing medical assistance for the wounded for the past 48 hours.
A Pattern of Aggression
Al-Eryani highlighted that this atrocity is part of a series of repeated attacks by the Houthi militias against the Al-Hafra neighborhood over the years. These assaults have led to numerous civilian casualties, including women and children, with entire families wiped out. This violence reflects a systematic policy aimed at terrorizing citizens and imposing control through force in areas under their domination.
Revealing the Criminal Nature of the Houthis
The minister emphasized that this crime once again exposes the criminal nature of the Houthi militias and their bloody tactics against civilians. The group shows a blatant disregard for human life and the sanctity of Yemeni blood. Their actions violate international and humanitarian laws, including the principles of international humanitarian law that prohibit targeting residential areas and using sieges as a weapon of war. Such practices amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Call for International Action
Al-Eryani urged the international community, the United Nations, and the UN envoy to condemn this horrific crime. He called for all necessary pressure to be applied on the Houthi militias to halt their aggression against civilians. Furthermore, he emphasized the need to open safe corridors for medical assistance and to ensure the protection of lives and property in areas under Houthi control. He also called for support for the Yemeni government to regain control over all territories and alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
