The head of Yemen’s EU mission delivers a letter from the Presidential Leadership Council to the President of the European Council.

Yemen’s Ambassador to the EU Delivers Message on Bilateral Relations

Today, Ambassador Mohammed Taha Mustafa, Yemen’s representative to the European Union, presented a written message from President Rashad Mohammed Alimi to Maria Jean dos Santos, the European Council’s advisor on foreign affairs. The letter, addressed to President Antonio Costa of the European Council, focuses on enhancing and developing bilateral relations between Yemen and the EU.

Discussion on Recent Developments in Yemen

During the meeting, Ambassador Mustafa and dos Santos discussed the latest developments in Yemen. The conversation highlighted the ongoing obstinacy of the Houthi militia regarding peace initiatives. The ambassador emphasized the urgent need for a resolution to the conflict, as the situation continues to deteriorate.

Economic Challenges and Threats to Navigation

Ambassador Mustafa also addressed the economic challenges Yemen faces due to the Houthi militia’s blockade on oil exports. He pointed out that these actions not only harm the Yemeni economy but also pose threats to navigation in the Red Sea. The ambassador called for international support to mitigate these issues and restore stability in the region.

EU’s Continued Support for Yemen

In response, dos Santos reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government. She referenced the conclusions from last month, which condemned the ongoing detention of international staff by the Houthi militia. Furthermore, she expressed the EU’s backing for the peace efforts led by the UN envoy.

Conclusion

The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration between Yemen and the EU in addressing the ongoing crisis. Both parties remain committed to fostering dialogue and finding sustainable solutions to restore peace and stability in Yemen.
